The Flexible Visa for Long, Winding Trips

Some journeys refuse to run in a straight line. You might base yourself in Ho Chi Minh City for work, hop over to Cambodia for a long weekend, come back, then fly to Thailand and return to Vietnam once more. Or you’re a regular visitor, with family in Da Nang and business in Hanoi, and you’re tired of reapplying every time you cross a border.

That’s exactly what the 3 months multiple entry e-visa is for. It gives you up to 90 days of validity and lets you leave and re-enter Vietnam within that window, all from one online application.

What Is It, Exactly?

It’s an electronic visa valid for up to 90 days, with as many entries as you need during that time. You apply online, receive your approval by email, print it, and show it at the border each time you enter.

A little background shows how much easier things have become. Before August 2023, Vietnam’s e-visa was capped at 30 days and open only to a restricted list of nationalities. Today, Vietnam issues 90-day electronic visas to citizens of every country and territory, with single or multiple entry options available entirely online.

The key difference from a single-entry visa is what happens when you leave. A single-entry visa is valid for one entry and one exit, while a multiple-entry visa stays active for the entire validity window. Leave Vietnam for a few days, and your visa is still good when you come back.

Is It Right for You?

The 3 months multiple entry visa is a good fit if you:

  • Travel around Southeast Asia. Vietnam is one stop on a longer route through Cambodia, Laos, or Thailand.
  • Visit for work. You travel in and out for meetings, projects, or site visits over a few months.
  • Spend time with family or friends. You’d like the freedom to come and go during a long stay.
  • Have a loose, changing itinerary. You’d rather keep your options open than lock in a single route.
  • Want peace of mind. If there’s any chance of a second entry, this visa avoids a big headache later.

If you’re certain you’ll enter once and leave once, the 3 months single entry visa is cheaper and does the job.

How Much Does It Cost?

Your total has two parts: the government fee and, if you use an agency, a service fee.

Government fee. A single-entry e-visa costs USD 25, and a multiple-entry one costs USD 50, paid online by card. The fee is for the visa type, and it’s non-refundable, even if the application is delayed or rejected.

Our service fee. It depends for rush option which you will choose

Do You Even Need a Visa?

Maybe not, so check first. More than 30 nationalities can enter Vietnam visa-free for 30 or 45 days, under exemptions that currently run to 2028. If your nationality is on the list and your stay fits the allowance, you can skip the visa. But if you plan to stay longer than the visa-free period, or want to come and go over several months, the 90-day multiple entry e-visa is a better fit. Not sure which applies to you? Ask us, and we’ll check your passport and plans.

How Long Does It Take?

The official processing time for the Vietnam e-visa is three working days. In real life, it can be a bit longer around public holidays and busy travel seasons. One guide recommends applying at least 10 to 14 days before your planned arrival. That’s a sensible cushion.

The Date Mistake That Shortens Your Trip

This catches many travelers, so read it carefully. Your 90 days don’t start when you land. They start from the entry date you put on the application, even if you arrive later or the visa itself arrives late.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • You set July 1 as your entry date and arrive on July 1. You get the full window. For a 90-day e-visa, the exit date falls 89 calendar days after the entry date.
  • You set July 1 but arrive two weeks later. You only get 76 days in Vietnam.

With a multiple entry visa, there’s an extra thing to keep in mind: every trip in and out has to fit inside that single 90-day window. Say your visa runs from July 1 to September 28. You can enter on July 1, leave for Laos in August, and return in September, no problem. But a return on September 30 comes too late, even though you still hold the visa.

So before you choose your entry date, map your whole route on a calendar. Count the days, and leave a buffer at the end.

Know Your Limits

A few honest points about what this visa can and can’t do:

  • 90 days is a hard cap. Plan around the 90-day limit.
  • It can’t be extended. The e-visa is not extended from inside Vietnam. If you want to stay beyond 90 days, you need to plan your exit and a new entry well in advance.
  • It’s a visitor visa, not a work or residence permit. Vietnam still has no dedicated digital nomad visa; the 90-day e-visa is a tourism and general visitor permit. If you travel for work, check the rules for your situation.
  • Overstaying has consequences. It can mean fines, and for longer overstays, possible deportation. Put your exit date in your calendar the day you arrive.

Tips for a Smooth Application

  • Match your passport exactly. Names, dates of birth, and passport numbers should be identical.
  • Check your passport validity. It should be valid for at least six months from your entry date.
  • Use a clear photo and scan. Blurry images are a common reason for delays.
  • Pick a valid entry port. Make sure your arrival airport, land border, or seaport is approved for e-visa entry, and remember that you cannot change the entry port once your e-visa has been issued.
  • Choose your stay carefully. If you might stay longer than 30 days, choose a longer validity now.
  • Don’t apply twice. If your status says “Processing,” that’s normal. It doesn’t mean something has gone wrong.
  • Print your e-visa. Keep a paper copy with you, plus a digital one on your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many times can I enter Vietnam?

As many times as you need within the 90-day validity, as long as you use approved ports.

Can I extend a 3-month e-visa once I’m in Vietnam?

No. The e-visa is not extended from inside Vietnam. Plan your travel within the 90 days.

Is it worth paying more for multiple entry?

If you might leave and return, yes. If you’re certain you won’t, the single-entry visa is cheaper.

Can I work in Vietnam on an e-visa?

The e-visa is for tourism and general visits, not for employment. Check the rules for your situation before you travel.

Can I change my details after I submit?

That depends on the status of your application. Contact us right away if you spot a mistake.
